Buddhist(ish) Book Study and Discussion Group

Do you enjoy contemplating the deep questions that come with being human? Where we come from, what it all means, how we can live in a way that is meaningful and peaceful and joyful, how we can cope with the feelings and pressures and tragedies of life?  Each Tuesday evening from 6:30-8, Asenath will facilitate a discussion based on Buddhist books from great teachers where we explore these issues and more. A discussion group such as this is one of the best ways to deepen your spiritual life. We will meditate together for half and hour, and then read a chapter together and discuss. Don’t worry if you are dropping in during the middle of a book. Each discussion can be taken independently. You don’t need to have the book or have done any homework. And don’t worry if you think you won’t have much to share. You can participate as much as you like, or just sit back and absorb. Either way will be very beneficial.

Somatic Sound Bath

Somatic sound baths bring a grounding experience where one practices awareness on breathing while listening to different types of instruments. In a somatic sound therapy approach, the nervous system is regulated and a deep relaxation can be felt. Sound healing is known to deepen relaxation, decrease stress and anxiety, improve mood and well-being, improve sleep and enhance focus and energy. Fabiana will lead this one-hour soundbath for a small group of 10 people.

3-Class Series: Somatic Posture Lab

In this brief, focused workshop, you are invited to create a space for self-inquiry, letting the unconscious intelligence of your body inform how you arrive at verticality. “Seated-at-the-desk” is the primary posture in question in this workshop, however, you may notice new awareness while maintaining other postures in your life. Sam will offer hands-on movement “repatterning” in your seated posture, reflections for journaling, experiential anatomy lessons, and guided, mindful movement, derived primarily from a somatic movement practice called Bartenieff Fundamentals. These movements are done near the floor, where we all initially began our long-term relationship with gravity, and help to remember primal, deeply intelligent movement patterns we inevitably have replaced with problematic habits, to cope with the stresses of contemporary living.
Week 1: Gratitude rising from the Lower Body
Week 2: Alertness reaching through the Spine
Week 3: Passion radiating through the Arms
Come with a journal, clothing you can move in, and an open mind!
Sam is a Registered Somatic Movement Educator through the International Somatic Movement Education and Therapy Association”

9-Class Series: Learn to Read Tarot
